Movistar will field a mixed team at the Tour de Romandie which starts today. For Pablo Lastras, Jonathan Castroviejo and Sylwester Szmyd, it will be the final chance to earn selection for the Giro d'Italia while Jesus Herrada, Ion Izagirre and Benat Intxausti hope to end their spring season on a high. Juan Jose Lobato will target the sprints while Giovanni Visconti continues his return to competition after his bad crash at the Down Under Classic.
Jonathan Castroviejo, Beñat Intxausti, Ion Izagirre, Juanjo Lobato, Jesús Herrada, Pablo Lastras, Sylwester Szmyd and Giovanni Visconti are the eight riders -directed by Chente García Acosta and José Luis Laguía- the Movistar Team will take to the start of the 68th Tour de Romandie on Tuesday, in their last WorldTour appearance before the Giro d'Italia starts in Belfast in eleven days' time.
The Swiss race will start with a 5.5km prologue in Ascona, outside the French-speaking zone in the canton Ticino, before taking on a varied parcours, with lumpy stages - finishing in Sion (Wednesday) and Fribourg (Saturday) -, a predictable bunch gallop in Montreux (Thursday) and four Cat-1 climbs en route to Aigle (Friday), the decisive stage together with a demanding ITT (19km, including the climb towards Frochaux) that will take the race to an end in Neuchâtel on Sunday.
