Wednesday will see the running of another Belgian spring classic, the 103rd Scheldeprijs. Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung will be lining-up for the race that is often termed as the 'Sprinters World Champs" with a strong roster of riders.
Tyler Farrar is a former winner of the Scheldeprijs, a UCI 1.HC categorised event, and just last year the American ran 2nd in the sprint behind Marcel Kittel (Giant-Alpecin) as he did in 2012 as well. As the nickname suggests, the race typically suits the sprinters with no climbs on route to speak of. The main challenges come in the form of a few short cobble sectors and possibly weather. Previous years has always seen a bunch sprint though.
With Farrar leading the MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung squad tomorrow, Theo Bos (also a previous podium finisher), Andy Stauff, Matt Goss and Reinardt Janse van Rensburg are all fast men that could play a role in the finale too. Matt Brammeier, Nic Dougall and Jay Thomson will provide the Africa team with the muscle needed in the lead up to the sprint.
"We are really looking forward to Scheldeprijs tomorrow. It is one of the sprinters spring classics and we have two guys lining up tomorrow who have stood on the podium there in the past. So we will be looking to put the MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung jersey on the podium this year," Farrar said.
