Even though this season’s edition of the Paris-Nice didn’t seem at first highly suitable for the climbers and all-rounders with its route lacking mountaintop finishes and long time-trial, surprising number of riders eventually decided to reschedule and chase their luck in the race to the sun while the strongest grand tour contenders will have their legs tested in the more demanding Tirreno-Adriatico starting in the middle of next weak.
As it was reported by Spanish media, an opposite situation occurred in case of Cofidis’ leader Daniel Navarro, as the in-form climber acknowledges that this year’s route of Paris-Nice, held from 9 to 16 March is not perfectly suited to his characteristics. Even though it contains rather testy, lumpy stages compared by the organizers to the following day by day classic races, the 30-year old Spaniard points out that finishes are designed for more explosive riders and thus Volta a Catalunya will be his challenge for the nearest future.
“My next race will be the Volta a Catalunya,” Navarro confirmed.
The 30-year old Cofidis leader recorded a highly promising start to the season with strong top ten performances in the Vuelta a Andalucia and Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia after spending over six months out of racing following his crash at the Vuelta a Burgos last year.
With Navarro’s racing program being rescheduled, Cofidis roster for Paris-Nice consists of:
Jerome Coppel, Julien Fouchard, Egoitz García, Cyril Lemoine, Luis Ángel Maté, Adriet Petit, Julien Simon and Romain Zingle.
