In the tenth stage of the Giro d’Italia, 200km from Civitanova Marche to Forlì, Southeast were expecting Manuel Belletti to deliver a big result in his home city, but young rider Matteo Busato achieved a fantastic second place in his first Giro.
Sports director Serge Parsani commented on the result of his young rider: “Great work today. It’s his first Giro. He obtained second place, but it’s a good result.”
Manuel Belletti was frustrated but serene: “Matteo lost today, but he’s been really strong. I was waiting for a final sprint with the peloton. On the cobbles, I had a problem with the chain and I lost some places. I didn’t want to risk everything in the finale for a sixth place. I thank Petacchi and my teammates.”
For Matteo Busato, it was a great emotion: “I always dreamed about competing for a stage win in the Giro d’Italia until the final metres. It’s been a great emotion for me to be able to do it today in my first Giro. I’m a little frustrated about the second place, but I am happy because I was in the breakaway for the entire stage. Tomorrow the 11th stage could be perfect for some of my teammates and I will help them as I have always done."
