In the last Belgian race of the season for Team NetApp – Endura, the 199.5 kilometer Omloop van Het Houtland in Lichtervelde, Daniel Schorn took second place in another top result. The 25 year old Austrian was part of the lead group for a long time and reached the finish line two seconds behind Jelle Wallays (Topsport Vlaanderen – Baloise), who surprised his breakaway colleagues 1000 meters before the finish.
Michael Schwarzmann reached the finish line with the peloton 37 seconds after the winner.
"I'm really tired," Schorn told Directvelo. "We had a crosswind. The pace was fast from the beginning of the race. When the good group left, one of our team had to be at the front of the race. My teammates told me to go. In the end, it was difficult to follow Julien [Vermote] who was very strong. Well, I'm still happy with my second place. In general, we have a great season. Next year we hope to do even better."
“We experienced a really difficult race today with rain and strong wind, which we impacted offensively as announced. Daniel was there in all critical attacks and was not only strong, but very clever as well. The subsequent winner attacked at the 1000 meter mark. Daniel responded with a long sprint and was rewarded with a super second place,” says a delighted Sport Director André Schulze about how the race turned out.
Schorn therefore continues his steam of good results this year. He also has done well in the Tour of Qinghai Lake, Post Danmark Rundt ad Volta Ao Algarve.
