On the social networks, Mike Teunissen has announced that he suffered a crash in his morning workout last Saturday which left him with a broken collarbone. The setback will delay the winter preparation for the Rabobank Continental Team rider who has signed a contract with the WorldTour LottoNL-Jumbo team which is currently known as Belkin.
Unfortunately, it is Teunissen's second broken collarbone in a period of less than six months. In the beginning of last summer, he suffered a similar injury at the U23 Dutch road race championships at a time when he was in medal contention.
Teunissen has been of the revelations in the U23 category. His crowning achievement was his victory in the U23 Paris-Roubaix where he delivered a splendid performance. Already after 21km of racing, he joined the escape and made a big attack on the Mons-en-Pevele pavé with 60km to go. Finally, he dropped his final rivals on the Carrefour de l'Arbre and rode solo for the last 15km to the velodrome. He beat his nearest rival by 1.15.
Fourth in the U23 Tour of Flanders, he finished his season by winning the U23 Paris-Tours after another splendid performance by the Rabobank Contitental Team that saw Teunissen being joined by teammates Martijn Tusveld and Sam Oomen on the podium.
