Italian team coach Davide Cassano has announced the final selection for the upcoming World Championships road race, held on September 28 in Ponferrada.
As expected, a formidable squad will be led by Tour de France Champion Vincenzo Nibali and third rider of the Giro d’Italia Fabio Aru, while remaining seven spots were granted to in-form and proven domestiques like Manuel Quinziato, Giampaolo Caruso and Giovanni Visconti, classics specialists Matteo Trentin and Daniele Benatti and their joker, rising breakaway artist Alessandro De Marchi.
The 9-rider Italian national team for World Championships road race consists of:
Vincenzo Nibali, Fabio Aru (Astana), Giovanni Visconti (Movistar), Matteo Trentin (Omega Pharma – Quick Step), Daniele Bennati (Tinkoff-Saxo), Alessandro De Marchi, Damiano Caruso (Cannondale), Giampaolo Caruso (Katusha) and Manuel Quinziato (BMC Racing).
