Despite having his most successful year of his career, Vincenzo Nibali didn’t had the best preparation during last year’s winter. His results during the first few months of the 2014 season were clearly affected by it. Nibali is eager to lay down a sounder foundation for the 2015 season during this winter.
“I’m determined not to repeat the mistakes of last winter, when for a number of reasons I wasn’t able to train as I should and I spent months catching up,” Nibali told Gazzetta dello Sport. “It went well but that doesn’t mean that it’s a model to follow again.”
The 29-year old Italian wants to be in top condition at the start of the 2015 season, because he has several objectives for this year.
“There are these big classics, the monuments, which would make my career more completely. I have missed a few opportunities so far at Liege, San Remo and the Worlds. I have a few accounts to settle.”
While the Tour de France is the major goal for the remainder of the season, Nibali doesn’t completely rule out defending his pink jersey in May.
“The door to the Giro isn’t completely closed yet even if the priority in 2015 will again be the Tour.”
