The relationship between Vincenzo Nibali and the leaders of Astana is unlikely to be the same as before. Despite his manager Alex Carera downplaying the story of the letter of poor performance ("Everything is not ok. There are problems which concern the whole team and all the staff. Problems the people at home do not see," he explains), the Sicilian would feel hurt by the behavior of the team.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, in the coming days there will therefore be a meeting between the leaders of the Kazakh team and the rider to try to seal a "yellow jersey" pact, a sort of truce for paddling on the same side of the Tour de France 2014.
During this meeting, the manager of Nibali will ask Astana to put their trust in Nibali. Any peace would be only temporary, however, until the end of the season. The future, despite a contract until 2016, could be far from the Kazakh team, to arrive in a team that gives Nibali total confidence. The perfect destination at the moment is the Trek team of Luca Guercilena, who will no longer have the weight of the salaries of the Schleck brothers, but Nibali is not excluded from the Tinkoff-Saxo rumours, where Bjarne Riis holds him in high regard, but in which there would be problem of cohabitation with another leader like Alberto Contador, and Cannondale, where ‘The Shark’ would be welcomed with open arms upon his return to his old team.
