Nicki Sorensen, the former professional cyclist, has admitted this week he used doping products during the first part of his career. "I doped. I admit that. I’m sorry for it. This happened in the early part of my career, more than 10 years ago", the former Tinkoff-Saxo rider told according to Danish website BT.dk. 

Sorensen became a pro rider in 2001 with CSC Pro Team Tiscali. With his team (between 2001 and 2014, his last year in the peloton), he won a stage in the Tour de France 2009, a stage in the Vuelta a Espana, GP Bruno Beghelli 2012. He won the Danish national road race total four times.

He will be named in an impending report from Anti-Doping Denmark (ADD), which also investigated former Tinkoff team boss Bjarne Riis and relies heavily on the testimony of former Tour de France yellow jersey wearer Michael Rasmussen. "I told ADD of my experiences. I did this to ease my conscience and because I also wanted to help the sport of cycling", Sorensen said.

Tinkoff-Saxo published a team press statement this monday. "Tinkoff-Saxo has a deep-rooted anti-doping culture that is implemented throughout the entire team. Tinkoff-Saxo was convinced at the time and remains of the view that Sorensen has conducted himself fully in accordance with this culture over the past decade of working with the team."
