With much of the international cycling world focusing on the Ardennes Classics this week, in Italy Team LAMPRE-MERIDA will be racing in another important appointment: The Giro del Trentino, which kicks off today.
The four stages (3 stages+ two half-stages) will be significant for the team because it will provide a serious and tough test prior to the Giro d'Italia.
The Lampre roster for the Giro del Trentino consists of Mattia Cattaneo, Kristijan Durasek, Roberto Ferrari, Przemyslaw Niemiec, Maximiliano Richeze, Michele Scarponi, Josè Serpa Perez and Davide Viganò, with Niemiec and Scarponi aiming for the podium.
“As usual the Giro del Trentino will be very demanding but the team will be ready to face it,” Sports Director Orlando Maini commented. “The key stages will be the second one, with arrival in Vetriolo Terme, and the last one, ending on the summit finish of Sega di Ala. Also, we shouldn’t forget the team time trial, which could be very important for the overall classification. For Scarponi the Giro del Trentino will be a good test in view of Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Giro d'Italia.”
