The traditional time trial in San Benedetto del Tronto ended the Tirreno-Adriatico. The Lampre-Merida rider that covered the 10km course in the best time was Josè Serpa who was 49th, 54 seconds behind winner Fabian Cancellara.
Przemyslaw Niemiec was one second slower and finished 50th: the Polish rider moved up one place in the overall stadings but he missed the target of the top ten by 12 seconds (Roman Kreuziger was 10th).
"Today's time trial was short and it was suitable for those riders that can exploit their speed and their power, so it was not good for me," Niemiec explained. "Furthemore, I was battling for a place in the top ten against riders that can usually do good performances in this kind of stages. Despite this, my time was more or less on the same level as my direct opponents and it allowed me to be 12th in the final classification.
"I have the regret of having missed the top ten even if I don't know when and where I could have done better than what I did in this race.
"I immediately focus my attention on my next appointment, the Volta a Catalunya, where I'd like to exploit the good shape that supported me in Tirreno-Adriatico".
