It took Przemysław Niemiec no less than four seasons to eventually take his first victory in the blue-fuchsia Lampre-Merida outfit in this year’s Vuelta a Espana. The 34-year Pole believed that a long-awaited success will improve his chances of finding a new team for 2015 as his situation in the Italian squad was uncertain, however, they eventually decided to offer his a new, two-year deal.
“I have extended my contract with a belief that I still haven’t said my last word,” Niemiec said, according to Biciciclismo. “I definitely do not feel tired or burnt out just yet and I have a strong desire to continue performing at the highest level. I entered the WorldTour relatively late and so I still have sufficient reserves left to explore and release.”
The Lampre-Merida manager, Brent Copeland, also expressed his satisfaction with extending contract with the 34-year old Polish rider.
“He’s a great climber and rides very smart tactically. You can have the best engine, but without the ability to work as a part of a team and to communicate with team-mates, you won’t make a significant progress. He’s very good in this department, respected by everyone in the team and through all those years he has shown that he is able to carry responsibility and handle the pressure. Now he will be provided with even more opportunities to prove it,” Copeland said.
