Not known as a strong time triallist, Przemyslaw Niemiec went into today's Tour de Pologne time trial with a defensive mindset. However, the Pole had a great day to move into the overall 5th place after what he claims to be the best TT of his life.
In the mountain stages, Przemyslaw Niemiec had clearly shown his good form but the Pole was expected to be on the defensive in today's final time trial. Being no specialist in the discipline, he was expected to suffer on the flat course.
However, Niemiec did better than expected by finishing the stage in 31st which allowed him to move into 5th in the final overall standings. The local rider was pleasantly surprised by his result.
"It 's probably the best time trial of my career," he said. "My legs, the Merida Warp TT, the Champion System skinsuit and the Kabuto helmet were perfect. I'm very happy because for the Poles, Tour of Poland always has a special charm, but I'm also aware that it was a good result for the team which is important for the WorldTour standings."
"Niemiec was very good at deal with managing his energy and handling the ups and downs on the course," sports director Orlando Maini said, praising his team leader.
