The Polish Lampre rider Przemyslaw Niemiec finished just outside the top 10 in today’s Tirreno-Adriatico stage as he crossed the finish line in 13th. He crossed the line together with the Rigoberto Uran group which was only 14 seconds after today’s winner Wout Poels.
The other good climber of the team Jose Serpa finished i42nd after having done a lot of good work for his team captain. It is also of great significance that Niemiec made a huge jump in the GC, moving up from 53rd to 19th. He is now 42 seconds down on the overall race leader and the winner of today’s stage, Dutchman Wout Poels of Sky.
“The performance of Niemiec was very impressing and gave confirmation of the fact that at this time he is surely one of the best climbers in the peloton,” said the DS of Lampre Maini to the Lampre website. “Looking at tomorrow's stage with finish line on the Terminillo it was interesting to see that Jose Serpa also climbed well.
“The difference in the top of the overall standings is not that big. Tomorrow will be the big selection. Niemiec will try to take advantage of the favourable conditions for him, taking into consideration that there will be a final time trial.”
