Giacomo Nizzolo and Trek-Segafredo agreed on a two-year contract extension through the end of 2018. The 27-year-old Italian joined the professional ranks with Leopard-Trek in 2011 and has developed into a world-class sprinter, taking home the Red Points jersey in the Giro d’Italia in the past two editions.
Giacomo Nizzolo said: “Trek-Segafredo is like a family to me, it wasn’t a hard decision to re-sign with the team. Luca (Guercilena) has been a mentor for me during all those years, and I couldn’t imagine a better team for me to continue my development and progression.”
Nizzolo’s latest exploit was a victory in the GP Kanton Aargau in Switzerland, where he capitalized on strong Trek-Segafredo teamwork and sealed the win.
“I feel really good in this team. I keep developing and growing as a sprinter. There is obviously still room for improvement, given my three victories versus twelve second and third places this season, but I’m determined to keep working hard," said Nizzolo.
General Manager Luca Guercilena added: “We are very pleased to have reached a new agreement with Giacomo. Over the last six seasons, he has been our go-to sprinter, and he has really become a flagship rider for us. The difference between winning and second is sometimes really small, which is why we will continue to develop his talent even more and help reach his full potential."
