Thomas Dekker didn't manage to beat the UCI hour record at the velodrome in Aguascalientes, Mexico, which is at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level. The current record of 52.491km made is still held by Rohan Dennis (BMC). Dekker managed to cover 52.221km during his attempt and so run 270 metres short of the Australian. However, he did better than Mathias Brändle (51.852), Jack Bobridge (51.300) and Jens Voigt (51.115).

Dekker was tuning a huge gear of 5814 on the velodorome in Aguascalientes, 550 kilometers from Mexico City, where Eddy Mercx and Francesco Moserbot managed to set a new record, in 1972 and 1984 respectively.

Jens Voigt was the first to break the record after the UCI changed the rules to allow ordinary time trial equipment. Mathias Brändle did better before Jack Bobridge made a failed attempt less than a month ago. Rohan Dennis set the current record on February 8.
