The second stage of the Giro d'Italia was a bad one for Bardiani – CSF as several riders were involved in crashes. The first who went down was Enrico Barbin, followed in the final part of the stage by Sonny Colbrelli, Stefano Pirazzi and Nicola Boem. Fortunately despite some grazes, all crossed the finish line in Genova.

Nicola Ruffoni was in a good position inside the last kilometre but during the final 700 meters, he didn’t have enough power, ending only 40th. In the first group, the team also had Bongiorno and Battaglin.

”I was in a really good position at the beginning of the final straight but when I had to jump out from Viviani’s wheel I didn’t have the legs," Ruffoni said. "Maybe the slightly uphill was too hard for me, thinking also of the high pace set by Tinkoff – Saxo in the second part of the stage. Now I have to wait some days before I will find a new chance to sprint."

”Last year I won the Giro dell’Appennino in this finale so this morning I was confident that I could achieve a new good result," Cobrellie said. "Unfortunately I was involved in a crash with 30km to go. I chased hard to get back in the peloton and then when I was there, a new crash forced me to stop. I didn’t go down but I lost the possibility to sprint. Now I’m thinking about tomorrow's stage. It looks good for me, better than today's."
