Slovakia's Peter Velits will wear the top-ranked jersey on Sunday in the 70th Vuelta a España after his squad, the US-licensed BMC Racing Team, beat Tinkoff by barely eight tenths of a second - with Orica-GreenEdge in 3rd, 1" behind - in the short, controversial TTT opening the action at the Costa del Sol, over 7.4km from Puerto Banús to Marbella.

The risks of the route, which already prompted the jury to rule against any times being taken into account for the overall classification before day two, made the Movistar Team take the stage cautiously, yet without leaving behind their competitive spirit and respect to the fans. Always with their nine-man roster together, the Eusebio Unzué-led group finished in ninth spot, 24" behind the winners.

Real action will start on Sunday with a short (158.7km), yet very interesting ride from Alhaurín to the Alto de la Mesa / Caminito del Rey, a Cat-3 ascent of 4.7km at 6.5% average gradient, which could bring some early gaps in the GC.
