Like most other race favourites, Rigoberto Uran crashed in today's stage of the Giro d'Italia but the Colombian got back on his bike and managed to finish with the first big chase group. He escaped any serious injuries and moved into third on GC.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Rigoberto Uran moved up to a 3rd place in the GC after stage 6 of the Giro d`Italia. The final part of the stage was very chaotic after a massive crash.

Four riders animated a big part of the 257 kilometres long stage. They were caught with 12 kilometres to go. Again rain troubled the peloton in the final kilometres. In the final 10 kilometres there was a massive crash in the peloton, which split up the bunch.

A group of 12 riders were in the front group, behind them was a chase group with several OPQS riders including Wout Poels, Rigoberto Uran and Gianluca Brambilla. They tried to reel in the lead group, but didn't come any closer. Eventually six riders stayed in front. Michael Matthews (Orica-GreenEDGE) was the fastest of the lead group and won the stage. Tim Wellens (Lotto-Belisol) finished 2nd, Cadel Evans (BMC) 3rd. Uran finished 15th in the chase group, which lost 49 seconds. In the overall he moved up to a 3rd place.

Uran and Pieter Serry were involved in the massive crash, but fortunately without major consequences. Serry suffered a contusion on his back. Uran also suffered minor injuries.

"The crash happened in the front of the group because we were all up there," Uran said. "All of the GC guys went down except Evans. Fortunately, I only have a few scratches and a contusion on my left side, the elbow and hip specifically. Fortunately it is nothing serious."
