The nominees for best Dutch cyclist of the year award have been named. A panel of former cyclist and journalists will decide which riders will win the trophies in 2014. The awards will be presented to the winners on November 24.
For the best Dutch male cyclist, Lars Boom and Niki Terpstra are the big favorites to win the yearly trophy. Boom won the epic cobble-stage in the Tour de France, while Terpstra was the first Dutch monument-winner in more than a decade, when he surprised the big favorites in Paris-Roubaix.
Tom Dumoulin is the third nominated road-cyclist. The other two nominees are MTB-rider Michiel van der Heijden and cyclocross-rider Lars van der Haar.
Mariane Vos is, of course, the big favorite again for the best Dutch female cyclist of the year. Her four competitors for the title are Laura Smulders, Anna van der Breggen, Ellen van Dijk and Annemiek van Vleuten.
For the best prospect of the year, Matthieu van der Poel was surprisingly left out. The five riders that were nominated are Matthijs Buchli, Elis Ligtlee, Wilco Kelderman, Mike Teunissen and Sabrina Stultiens.
