Team Novo Nordisk fought hard during the queen stage of Tour of Hainan, stretching over 200 kilometers from Dongfang to Wuzhishan and featuring three category 1 climbs. After a breakaway of just two riders was caught at 20-km to the finish, three riders broke from the peloton at 15-km to go and managed to stay away to the finish line. Andrey Zeits (Astana Pro Team) took the win.
“All the riders worked hard to stay with the main group through the climbs during another very hot and long day on the bike,” said Team Novo Nordisk Sport Director Massimo Podenzana. “We’re looking ahead to the final stage tomorrow where we’ll focus on finishing strong with a top result.”
Andrey Zeits (Astana Pro Team) finished in first, followed by Julien El Fares (Team Marseille 13 KTM) in second and Francisco Mancebo Perez (Skydive Dubai Pro Cycling Team).
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, finishes racing at the Tour of Hainan on Wednesday’s Stage 8. The 119-km race begins in Wuzhishan and ends in Xinglong.
