Team Novo Nordisk closed out the Post Danmark Rundt in style with Charles Planet featuring in the day’s main breakaway.

Saturday’s Stage 6 saw a two-man break escape early into the 150-kilometer stage. Yet this duo wasn’t given much of a gap and they were soon reeled in. Three new riders attacked and built a gap of approximately 30 seconds when Team Novo Nordisk’s Charles Planet saw an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. The Frenchman, who was also part of the breakaway on Stage 2, decided to bride up to the trio and established the day’s main breakaway, which held on until the final finishing laps around Frederiksberg. The race ended in a bunch sprint with Michael Morkov (Tinkoff-Saxo) taking the win, while teammate Christopher Juul-Jensen (Tinkoff-Saxo) took the overall.

“I attacked eight times at the beginning of the race because I really wanted to be in the break today, but it never happened,” Planet said. “After the two riders came back after 50 kilometers and a new break formed, I felt really good and followed my instincts and attacked. I knew it would be hard to bridge up but we worked well together. Getting to be part of the front group in those circuits was amazing with all of the fans. This race was good for me and I’m heading into the USA Pro Challenge in Colorado very confident.”

Michael Morkov (Tinkoff-Saxo) took the win ahead of Matti Breschel (Tinoff-Saxo) and Edvald Boasson Hagen (MTN-Qhubeka).

Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling squad, resumes racing at the Arctic Race of Norway on August 13th. Stage 1 is a 213.5-km run beginning and ending in Harstad.
