“I know the profile of the race, so it’s a good race for me. I will try to be with the front riders and get a good result. A top five would be incredible. I felt good in Dubai and hopefully Murcia will go even better.”

Team Novo Nordisk will take its first European start of the 2015 season on Saturday at the one-day Spanish race, the Vuelta Ciclista Murcia.

“After changing continents several times over the past month, Team Novo Nordisk’s next stop is Europe,” Team Novo Nordisk General Manager Vassili Davidenko said. “We have a very challenging race ahead of us, but our Spanish climbers David Lozano and Javier Megias are ready to race at home.”

Fresh off the Dubai Tour and the Tour de Filipinas where Team Novo Nordisk’s Scott Ambrose earned the team’s first-ever win by soloing to victory on Stage 2, the American team is taking a six-man roster to the historic Spanish race. Team Novo Nordisk’s squad includes Scott Ambrose (NZL), Joonas Henttala (FIN), David Lozano (ESP), Javier Megias (ESP), Andrea Peron (ITA), and Simon Strobel (GER).

“Both David and Javi are going into Saturday’s race with solid form. Last week in Dubai, they both finished with the first group on the mountain stage, and their form is only growing,” Davidenko said. “I’m also excited to see Scott Ambrose at a European race. He just won a stage at the Tour of Filipinas and I’m sure with the right race combination, he can have a good day and a solid result.”

Born and raised in Madrid, the 31-year-old Megias has completed one Grand Tour in his career to date, the Vuelta a Espana, where he earned a top 10 stage finish in 2007. In 2014, the Spanish climber earned five top 10 stage finishes at the Tour de Beauce, Tour of Turkey, Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic and USA Pro Challenge.

“Murcia is going to be a hard race, particularly with two long climbs and an uphill finish, but my form is better than I thought it would be at this point in the season,” Megias said. “I know the profile of the race, so it’s a good race for me. I will try to be with the front riders and get a good result. A top five would be incredible. I felt good in Dubai and hopefully Murcia will go even better.”

In its 35th edition, the Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia 1.1 UCI race will feature 19 teams including seven World Tour squads. The 198.1-kilometer race begins in Mazarron and features two intermediate sprints and four categorized climbs as the peloton ascends over 2,000 meters. The first climb is a Category 3 climb 15 km into the race. The next two climbs are both Category 1 climbs and are situated less than 10 km apart. The race ends with a summit finish on the Category 3 Fortaleza del Sol in Lorca.
