Sven Nys dropped his chain in the first lap of the Superprestige race in Diegem but slowly fought his way back to the front and ended in sixth place.

"It was too bad that I already lost so many places in the first lap," he told Sporza. "I had really good legs.

"I had to jump from group to group, but had hoped for support. I had to do all the work in the chase. More was possible so it was a missed opportunity. I had the legs to fight for the podium.

"I pulled another full lap but was dropped again as I needed to catch my breath. I did have the legs to compete for victory. It is surely a missed opportunity when you look at the misfortune of Van Aert. My attack? It was just trying to stay in front. The difference from yesterday was striking. It confirms that my form is growing.

"It is very exciting in the standings. And I can feel a growing trend. That was a good race for the spectators? But I would rather have been in front and be part of the race."
