Sven Nys rode a good Superprestige race in Gavere but finally had to acknowledge the superiority of a strong Wout Van Aert. "Most would pay badly for such an effort in Asper-Gavere. Wout didn't so he is the deserving winner," a satisfied Ny said. "I'm the best of the rest."
"For the first time, I had a good feeling in this race and I was on the attack and put the rest under pressure," he told Sporza. "I did not really think that anyone could go any faster as all three (Van Aert, Pauwels, van der Haar, ed.) seemed to be in difficulty. It was also the first time that we had a heavy cross in terms of conditions. I really did have a comfortable feeling but suddenly Wout managed to get away on the climb. After that attack, I was not immediately in second position and therefore I could not respond right away."
"Frankly, I was hoping that his pace was too high, because on this course you can not just continue without paying for that. Wout could and even kept going to the finish, so he deserved to win," said a fair Nys. "Ultimately, I am happy with my cross because if I had tried to follow Van Aert, I had blown up. Kevin Pauwels also had something in the legs, but I could beat him in the sprint. At the finish there was a strong wind so I stayed behind for a long time. I'm proud of my result because I am the best of the rest. "
