Sven Nys was never really in the mix at the Worlds in Tabor. He was hoping for a podium spot but he was on a bad day and finished 17th, 3.30 behind winner Mathieu van der Poel.
Sven Nys had planned the World Championships to have a different outcome. He hoped for the podium but in the first half lap he realized that he was not on a good day.
"It is the story that has now lasted for over two months," said Nys afterwards. "I did not have enough power, not that good feeling in the legs. I've tried and tried my best, but more was not possible. I hoped for very good day, but unfortunately I didn't have that."
Nys is now already focused on the next season, his final year as a professional. "I still believe in myself. I have won two races this year. In the beginning of the season things went well so why should I not be good next year? I'm just tired and I admit that during the last two or three laps , I wondered whether it would not be a good idea to end the seasona and take a longer rest period. In the next few days I will discuss that with my trainer Paul van den Bosch. I'm not going to make a decision in a hurry."
An hour later Nys seemed already to have made his decision. "For those who think I'm depressed, forget it. I am excited for Wednesday's race," he tweeted.
