Sven Nys never played a role in today's Superprestige race in Ruddervoorde. The Belgian champion regrets the lack of rain that has made the racing too easy in recent weeks.
With a fourth place, Sven Nys finished just off the podium at the Superprestige race in Ruddervoorde.
"The course was not difficult enough," he told Het Nieuwsblad. "I wish it will start to rain very soon because I look forward to courses that will deliver some heavier racing."
In Ruddervoorde, Sven Nys was never in front.
"I did not feel bad, but I did not really have that great feeling," he said after the race . "I actually had that typical "first day feeling". I'm always better on the second day of a cross weekend, but since there was no cross on Saturday, I had that feeling in the legs today."
In other weekends, Nys simulates a race workout on Saturdays but yesterday he held back.
"Normally I train intensely," he explains, "but since we already have a race on Tuesday, I have simulated the race less heavily. You should never exaggerate."
Hence, Nys missed his bite today.
"I was not aggressive enough," he says. "You know you have to be up front after every turn and you must fight to get back. That didn't work well today. The course was not difficult enough, and we were still too many riders in the end. I was too far back and when I was fourth in the last corner, I knew I would not be better than fourth. It's been several weeks in a row with fast, dry races. I hope it will start to rain again. A really heavy mud cross suits me better."
