Sven Nys got a the Superprestige race in Asper-Gavere off to a bad start but in the end he was not far from the win. The race was won by Klaas Vantornout ahead of his teammate Kevin Pauwels but Nys made an excellent comeback to finish third.
"With these legs, I should have done better today," the Belgian champion told Het Nieuwsblad.
"Once I won the consistency competition by winning all race. Maybe I will now win without winning a single race. From the start I had deliberately decided to ride at my own pace and I didn't start too fast like some did. I had bad luck to be further back than I had expected. Suddenly, my chain came off and so I lost more than fifteen seconds. That was too much.
"In the second lap I managed ti find a nice pace and little by little I caught riders but third was apparently the maximum achievable. Maybe I started to slow in this race. I must admit that Klaas Vantornout finished the race very strongly and so he is the deserved winner. The overall standings remain exciting."
