Before the start of the final stage of the Tour of Oman, organizer Eddy Merckx had a meeting with the Omani minister for sports. After the five-time Tour de France winner had voiced his concerns about the future of the race due the cancellation of stage 5, he confirms to De Telegraaf that the race will go on in 2016.
"But they have informed me that they consider not to invite a few teams after yesterday's action," Mercx said without revealing any names.
Fabian Cancellara (Trek) and Tom Boonen (Etixx-QuickStep) were among the riders who were in favour of the cancellation of the stage.
