According to Dutch media, a future of the Omega Pharma-Quick Step team is secured for next three seasons as team’s title sponsors gave Patrick Lefevere their nod to continue the project during a meeting held in Prague, Czech Republic.
Omega Pharma-Quick Step manager hinted some time ago that a meeting with squad’s title sponsors’ representatives – Zdenek Bakala and Bessel Cook, is going to be held, but emphasized that he will travel to Prague tranquil about team’s future following a very successful spring campaign.
Even though contracts with team’s main sponsors, expiring by the end of 2015, weren’t extended yet, reportedly Lefevere received a word from both parties that they would stay on board for at least two more seasons.
Asked about a future of Omega Pharma-Quick Step most renowned riders running out of contracts next season, team’s manager was reluctant to make early speculations.
“I do not think it’s wise to discuss it now,” Lefevere answered, asked by NOS whether there is a possibility for Tom Boonen to stay in Belgian squad after hanging up his wheels, “He stays a rider for at least another year and a half. A rider who plans his career after retiring is a rider who won’t perform anymore.”
