Less than a month into their Professional Continental calendar ONE Pro Cycling have caught the attention of WorldTour race organisers and been granted the teams first wildcard entry into the Tour de Pologne.
A prominent fixture on the WorldTour calendar and Poland’s most prestigious sporting event, the Tour de Pologne is due to take place on 12 - 18 July. ONE Pro Cycling will take part in the seven-day stage event alongside five previously assigned wild cards, the Polish National Team and 18 UCI WorldTour teams.
Former England Cricketer and CEO of ONE Pro Cycling Matt Prior is delighted with the teams first wildcard invitation and commented, “To be involved in a WorldTour event is another big step in the right direction for all involved at ONE Pro Cycling and further indicates that we are doing the right things. It has been a whirlwind journey that wouldn’t have happened without the dedication of the team and the support of our fans and members. We would like to thank the Tour de Pologne for the invitation and in particular General Director Czeslaw Lang and Vice CEO Agata Lang for believing in what we are doing as a team.’’
With two strong Polish riders Karol Domagalski and Marcin Bialoblocki forming part of the teams twenty rider roster, it gives them the opportunity to race in their home Tour at the highest level in world cycling.
Marcin Bialoblocki, winner of the Krakow TT last year at Tour de Pologne and 2015 Polish TT National Champion said, "I’m very excited by the news that my team have an invitation for the Tour de Pologne. I’ve been training hard for the start of my race season and the news of the invite has made my day or probably the next few months! It’s a great race and I can’t wait to be there with ONE Pro cycling. My motivation with the team has always been high but this has only given me even more motivation to train hard and prepare for a great race.’’
A testament to the hard work and dedication of the team over the last twelve months, the opportunity to experience WorldTour racing will be a great learning curve for both staff and riders. ONE Pro Cycling will enter the aiming to animate each stage where possible, whilst focusing on Bialoblocki for the time trial stage which he won last year. The event will be a key target and a massive boost for everyone involved.
The invite was confirmed two days after the launch of ONE Pro Cycling’s annual Membership Scheme giving fans the opportunity to become part of the team, contribute to their achievements and celebrate their success. General Manager Becky Frewing said, "The opportunity to join ONE Pro Cycling and be part of a professional cycling team as a member has gone down brilliantly and been a great success. It has been incredible to watch the ONE Pro Cycling community grow throughout the year and we hope that this will only get bigger and better."
