Criterium du Dauphiné is traditionally a preparation race for the Tour de France and Orica-GreenEDGE plan to use it as such. Key riders Simon Gerrans and Daryl Impey will fine-tune their conditon and despite boasting climbers Ivan Santaromita and Adam Yates and sprinter Leigh Howard on the roster, the team has no expectations for their results in the 8-day race.
The Criterium du Dauphiné is a demanding eight day stage race that is often considered a final tune-up for the riders that will contend for the overall at the Tour de France next month. The mountainous route opens with a time trial ahead of seven road stages.
“We’re going into the race with no pressure at all," Sport Director Matt Wilson said. "We’re not here to chase results. It’s a good preparation race – a high level preparation race for the Tour de France. We have some of our key guys here that are doing the Tour de France. With that said, if we can get a stage result along the way, we’ll certainly be happy with that."
