Orica Green-Edge renews contract for Canadian workhorse Svein Tuft, who is well-known for his time trial strength, the team says in a press release.
Svein Tuft, 8-time Canadian TT champion, is a extremely powerful veteran on flat terrain. He was also 2nd in 2008 world ITT. Recently he focused more on team time trial abilities. Along with teammate Durbridge and others, he helped OGE team won the 2013 TDF TTT, and lost by only 1 second in the Firenze worlds TTT.
Tuft is one of the first riders that DS Matt White brought to the OGE team, and White is really happy on the Canadian's production, "He works very hard in every situation. We always know what we're getting with Svein." Also Tuft could bring the team his veteran presence, "It's great news that Sveino wants to retire with us. He's a big benefit to all the younger guys on the team – to everyone, for that matter.", says White.
OGE team recruited a lot of super talents, like Yates brothers, Chaves, Howson and Ewan. The team was even reported to be in contact with Chinese talent Choi Ki Ho. Those guys will surely appreciate the presence of veterans like Tuft.
Speaking on next season, Tuft confirms that there's no major change in his program, and points out the World Championship Team Time Trial once again as him goal. Naturally, as this year's margin was so small, and with OPQS losing 3 of its winning team members, Tuft and his team has a fairly good chance. Other than that, Tuft thinks the flat TT in Giro is suited for both him and "Turbo Durbo", and that will be an objective for both of them as well.
