Sergio Pardilla (MTN-Qhubeka) and José Gonçalves (Team La Pomme Marseille 13) will complete the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team in 2015. The two very different riders will provide experience and strength to the Spanish team, Biciciclismo reports.
Hence, Caja Rural will go into next season with 19 riders. Javier Aramendía, David Arroyo, Pello Bilbao, Fabrizio Ferrari, Fernando Grijalva, Francesco Lasca, Ángel Madrazo, Lluis Mas, Antonio Molina, Omar Fraile, Heiner Parra and Amets Txurruka will continue with the team. Pardilla and Goncalves join Carlos Barbero (Euskadi), Miguel Ángel Benito (Caja Rural amateur team), Hugh Carthy (Rapha Condor), Eduard Prades (OFM) and Ricardo Vilela (OFM) as new signings. The team will gather for the first time on November 7 and 8 in Tudela.
After two years at MTN-Qhubeka and two years at Movistar, 30-year-old Pardilla is likely to be one of the leaders of the team. The Spaniard has done two Vueltas and two Giros and together with David Arroyo and Eduard Prades, he is likely to lead the outfit in one-week races where he has done well in the first part of his career.
In 2014, he was 17th in the Vuelta as best MTN-Qhubeka rider, but he was left off the roster before Caja Rural offered hims a contract. He was fifth in the Vuelta a Burgos and 12th in the Tour de Suisse as the best rider from a non-WorldTour team. In the latter race, he was beaten by riders like Rui Costa, Bauke Mollema, Tony Martin, Tom Dumoulin, Roman Kreuziger and Cadel Evans who were almost all preparing for the Tour de France. The result came after he broke his wrist in Tirreno-Adriatico in March. Last year he won at Nuestra Señora de Graça in the Volta a Portugal, was third in the Tour de Langkawi and sixth in the Tour of Britain.
With Movistar in 2011 and 2012, he mostly worked for his leaders but still managed to finish second behind Andrew Talansky in the 2012 Tour de l'Ain and 12th in the 2012 Volta a Catalunya. Earlier in his career he did well in the colours of Camiooro: he won the Tour of Japan in 2009 and in 2010, he won the Vuelta a Madrid, took a stage win and finished third in the Vuelta a Andalusia, was second in the Tour of Austria behind Riccard Ricco and third in the Volta ao Portugal.
His career began in Viña Magna / Burgos where he won a stage of the 2006 Tour de l'Avenir in 2006, the Tour des Pyrenees in 2007 and took a step up in 2009 when he won a stage and finished second in the Vuelta a La Rioja and was third in Ordizia and Urkiola.
Goncalves has been riding at the elite level for three years, the last two at the La Pomme Marseille team. In 2012, he made his debut with Onda Boavista and conquered the national time trial title in addition to finishing third in the two time trials of the Volta a Portugal.
Those results opened the doors at La Pomme which has allowed him to do most of the races on the French calendar. He did not disappoint and last year he won the Polynormande (1.1) and was third in the Tour of China. Accompanied by his twin brother Domingos, he finished fourth in the this year's Tour of Hainan that finished yesterday and was won by his teammate Julien Antomarchi, and was sixth in the Tour of Qinghai Lake.
