One unusual participant in the cyclocross race in Bredene was road rider Jelle Wallays. The Paris-Tours winner finished 20th. "It was a great workout," the road rider said.
Alongside Tosport Vlaanderen teammate Pieter Vanspeybrouck lined up at the Ereprijs Paul Herygers.
"A great workout," Wallays said before the start. "Perfect as the weather is so bad." The Paris-Tours winner just managed to finish in the top 20 (3'47 " behindwinner Wout van Aert). "Satisfied with the outcome," he tweeted after the race.
Pieter Vanspeybrouck was half a minute faster than Wallays. He finished 17th, 3'14" behind Van Aert "I am amazed at your level and how fast you're going," he told cyclo-cross rider Sven Vanthourenhout in a tweet. "Only respect."
