Simon Pellaud is starting the Vuelta despite crashing while out training. IAM Cycling’s Simon Pellaud ended his Wednesday at the Malaga hospital after having been the victim of a crash. He collided with a car while out training ahead of his participation in the Vuelta.
The examinations at the hospital proved to be reassuring. Pellaud suffered abrasions and cuts to the face. After returning from his Thursday morning training ride with his teammates, the neo-pro from the Valais region in Switzerland tried to explain the situation.
“I don’t really know what happened. I was overtaking a bus that was parked on the roadside, but as soon as I got passed it, a car hit me pretty hard, and I found myself knocked on the ground. Luckily, this happened right in front of the hospital, which meant that I got a lot of support much faster.”
In view of the fact that nothing was broken, in addition to the reassuring diagnosis given by the doctors, the IAM Cycling team management, in agreement with the team doctors, has decided to allow Simon Pellaud to line up for his first grand tour participation of his young career on Saturday evening in Puerto Banus.
