During the 2nd stage of the Giro d’Italia from Albenga to Genova, the riders of the Southeast team were protagonists.
Eugert Zhupa was in the breakaway, the first of the Giro, since the early kilometers and until the circuit in Genova. Ramon Carretero had a fever two days ago and was well yesterday. Today was a bad day for him and the Panama rider had to abandon the race.
In the last kilometers, the team delivered great workfor Alessandro Petacchi who finishe 5th, after having followed first Greipel and later Booen in the finale. On the birthday of his son and of his teammate Mauro Finetto, Petacchi was back in the sprinting action in his home race.
“I had a problem with the bike in the finale," he said. "My saddle was a little too low and I lost a few positions. Later I made the wrong choice: I decided to follow Boonen and not Greipel. I want to thank all my teammates, in particular Francesco Gavazzi, Manuel Belletti and Yonathan Monsalve, for helping me in the finale. I can do better and I will try to win another stage.“
