According to Spaziociclismo, it has been confirmed that Alessandro Petacchi will leave Omega Pharma – Quick Step after riding in the Belgian outfit from the second part of the 2013 season.
Petacchi returned from his short retirement in the middle of 2013 season to strengthen the Omega Pharma – Quick Step sprint train of Mark Cavendish. It has been reported, however, that 41-year old Italian was unable to find a common language with another lead-out man, Mark Renshaw, and thus will be forced to look for another squad to continue his professional career with.
Despite being one of the oldest riders in the professional peloton, Petacchi took the victory at the Grand Prix Pino Cerami this year and reportedly expressed his will to continue through the 2015 season. It is yet to be determined, though, in which outfit the renowned sprinter is going to ride.
