Thibaut Pinot, who has not raced since the Tour in July and won't pin on a race number again in 2016, has set his sights on the next season. According to L'Equipe, the FDJ leader wants to compete in the Giro d'Italia and in the Tour de France.
Pinot wants to change his program. In the last years, he was focused only on the French three-week race. "That would spice up my career again because I always do the same programmes, and I'd like to break out of that routine."
"The decision lies with the sponsor, for whom the Tour de France represents, in terms of visibility, the most important race of the year. I decide my race programme outside of the Grand Tours, but not the Grand Tours themselves."
If the team accepts it, he will be present at the start of the 2017 Giro d'Italia where he will go for the win. At the Tour de France, he will focus only on stage wins.
"I hope to go to the Giro but it's not my call," he said. "What's certain is that I'll do two Grand Tours next year. Giro and Tour – going for GC at the Giro and stage wins at the Tour? [or maybe] Giro and Vuelta?"
