On paper, the Classica Corsica looked like one for the sprinters and it was young Thomas Boudat (Europcar) who took the opportunity to win. This new race has helped riders of the FDJ team to test their condition. Thibaut Pinot has confirmed his desire to win the Criterium International this weekend.
The two main challenges of the day were found in the first part of the race with the ascent of the Col de Vizzavona already climbed in 2013 in the second stage of the Tour de France, followed by a technical descent on wet roads and a new ascent to Corte.
"There was an attack from Cédric Pineau in the first kilometers," says Jeremy Roy. "Then I tried. Finally, we ended up in a 40-rider front group but it was too far from the finish to go all the way."
Thibaut Pinot, Steve Morabito, Francis Mourey and Jérémy Roy all were in this group. Once back on the flat, Roy tried to hey clear but the sprint teams brought it back together. Hence, the race was decided in a sprint, but the day made it clear that the FDJ team is ready for their next goal
Thibaut Pinot has recovered very well from Tirreno-Adriatico and he has a single objective at the start of the Critérium International which ends on Sunday at the top of the Col de l'Ospedale: to win!
