Team Sky got off to a lively start at the GP de Montreal but were unable to make an attack stick in the rain.
The second of a Canadian WorldTour double-header played out in largely soaking conditions, with a race of attrition leading to a significantly reduced peloton at the finish.
Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) broke clear on the final lap alongside Adam Yates (Orica-GreenEdge) and was just able to hold off the Brit and the chasing pack at the line.
Team Sky pushed hard early on during the 17-lap event - placing Xabier Zandio, David Lopez and Danny Pate in separate breakaway attempts off the front.
With a fast pace and motivated bunch the moves were hauled back. Zandio's group were only afforded a 40-second advantage, and while Pate's group stayed away for slightly longer, a regrouping occurred. Lars-Petter Nordhaug was the team's only finisher on the day as the peloton finished in small groups.
Team Sky lined up without Bernhard Eisel after the Austrian fractured his arm during a crash on Friday's race in Quebec.
After a brief halt in the weather monsoon conditions returned for the finale. Four riders - Thomas Voeckler (Europcar), Manuel Quinziato (BMC Racing), Andrey Grivko (Astana) and Louis Vervaeke (Lotto Soudal) - were eventually caught ahead of the bell lap.
