After Wednesday’s victory by Alexander Kristoff in Tour de Suisse, Katusha Team another win yesterday with Alexander Porsev raising his arms in victory salute for being the fastest rider at stage 1 of Tour of Luxembourg, a 193km long ride from Luxembourg to Hautcharage.
The young Russian sprinter defeated Gerald Ciolek (MTN-Qhubeka) and Juan Josè Lobato (Euskaltel-Euskadi), respectively in second and third position.
“I am very happy today. This is a special day for me. I have waited for this victory for a long time and finally I have got it. Yesterday [Wednesday], after the prologue, I had good feelings, and today our sports director Torsten Schmidt said that the team would work for me and that I had a chance to do something good. I thank all my teammates for the great help during the stage, especially I want to thank Marco Haller, who helped me a lot in final kilometre to get the best position for the sprint,” said Alexander Porsev.
There were no changes in the general classification: Jimmy Engoulvent (Sojasun) kept the overall leader after Wednesday’s victory in the prologue.
