"It's a great start to the year to find myself at the top of the UCI WorldTour rankings. To be on the podium at my first two WorldTour races gives me confidence going into the rest of the season where my bigger goals lie."

BMC Racing Team's success at the first three UCI WorldTour races of the 2016 season has seen the team top the team and individual rider rankings.

BMC Racing Team is currently ranked number one in the team classification with 272 points, 19 points ahead of Team Sky and 23 points ahead of Tinkoff.

Following his second place at the Santos Tour Down Under and his third place overall at Paris-Nice, Richie Porte is at the top of the individual rider ranking with 159 points. He leads Simon Gerrans (Orica GreenEDGE) by 44 points and Sergio Henao (Team Sky) by 47 points.

The current rankings are an excellent validation of BMC Racing Team's solid start to the season, BMC Racing Team General Manager Jim Ochowicz said.

"The UCI WorldTour rankings are important to us as they measure our performance against the other teams and riders in the WorldTour competition," Ochowicz said.

"When you look at the first three UCI WorldTour races of the season; the Santos Tour Down Under, Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatcio, we've been on the podium at all three and have won multiple stages. It's a good signal to the team that we are on the right track for the 2016 season."

Porte's number one status gives him confidence in his first season with BMC Racing Team.

"It's a great start to the year to find myself at the top of the UCI WorldTour rankings. To be on the podium at my first two WorldTour races gives me confidence going into the rest of the season where my bigger goals lie."

"We're happy to see Richie take the number one place on the rider ranking and we hope that both he and BMC Racing Team will stay up there throughout the season," Ochowicz confirmed.

Following his win at Tirreno-Adriatico today, Greg Van Avermaet now sits in fourth place on the individual rider ranking with 104 points.
