Tobias Ludvigsson unfortunately had to withdraw from the Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta del Sol after the second stage individual time trial on Wednesday following a heavy fall on his wrist on the morning’s road stage.
Ludvigsson returned to The Netherlands on Wednesday evening to await further tests and scans with the team’s medical experts, with a suspected fractured scaphoid initially diagnosed.
Team Giant-Alpecin Physician, Anko Boelens explained: “After initial checks it looks like Tobias may have a scaphoid fracture in his wrist. We are now awaiting scans to further reveal the damage done and from there we will be able to formulate the best road to recovery.”
Ludvigsson will undergo more scans tomorrow and more will be known after this point.
