Today the 50th edition of Tirreno-Adriatico started. After the wise decision to change the initial program of the race of the two seas taken by the organizers to allow more room to work on in the municipalities affected by the bad weather last week, the opening prologue of 5.4 km was held entirely on the streets of the town of Camaiore.

The course had a mix  of curves and wide avenues at the Tuscan waterfront and so suited the prologue specialists. Malori beat Cancellara and Van Avermaet.

For Lampre Merida, the best rider at the finish line was Filippo Pozzato who was 63rd while Przemyslaw Niemiec lost some time in the GC battle by finishing 129th.

“At the start I felt good and I was able to interpret the mixed course by approached the curves with the right determination," Pozzato said. "I was good until the intermediate check but at the change of direction that led to the final avenue, I didn't have positive feelings and honestly my performance was no longer as good. It was not a test to forget, I thought I could go a few seconds faster but I am confident that I can do good things in this Tirreno-Adriatico. ”
