"In the final kilometers I was almost empty, but I wanted to sprint for a place in the top ten: it's a pity I could not achieve this goal and score any WorldTour points."

The team raced as an united group, the singe riders did good performances, but the final result did not honor the efforts of LAMPRE-MERIDA in the Ronde van Vlaanderen.

Filippo Pozzato finished 12th, battling until the final kilometers; Nelson Oliveira's performance was amazing, especially in the sector between the two last passages of the Oude Kwaremont; Niccolo Bonifazio and Davide Cimolai were good too.

The race development was as expected and the athletes directed by the duo Scirea-Righi rode for most part of the race in the main group, trying to support the leader Pozzato.

During the second passage on the Oude Kwaremont (-53 km), Bonifazio worked to allow his teammates Pozzato, Cimolai and Oliviera to approach the climb in the front positions; as opposed to this, unfortunately Richeze could not give his help because of a broken wheel after a contact with another rider.

After the group had reached the top of the Oude Kwaremont, Cimolai tried an attack and he led the race for a few kilometers, before the chasers reacted and neutralized the action. Cimolai went back to support Pozzato, while Oliveira was patrolling the front positions of the main group, also trying to escape with 33 km to go.

When the attempt by the Portuguese champion was neutralized, Terpstra and Kristoff began their decisive attack, that allowed the Norwegian rider to win the race.

While the brave Luka Pibernik almost succeeded in coming back in the bunch during the last approach to the Oude Kwaremont, Oliveira used his final energy to help Pozzato, who succeeded in reaching the finish in the second chase group: in the sprint he missed the top ten, finishing the race in 12th position.

Pozzato explained that: "During the whole day I had good feelings, the plot of the race was linear and, also thanks to the support of my team mates, I could be in the main group.

"During the second passage of the Oude Kwaremont the group was still large, but I really appreciated the fact that there were four LAMPRE-MERIDA riders there. The support I got from Boniazio, Cimolai and Oliveira in the crucial sections was great.

"In the final kilometers I was almost empty, but I wanted to sprint for a place in the top ten: it's a pity I could not achieve this goal and score any WorldTour points."

"The commitment of all our riders was good, starting with those who worked in the first kilometers, passing to those who have made sure that we could start the climbs in the best positioning and ending with those who, like Oliveira, did a great race.

"Pozzato gave good signals. Pippo in his best condition, not set back by the illness that struck him last weekend, would have had the energy to obtain a place in the top ten."
