Eighteen hills and six cobblestones sectors were on the menu in the Eneco Tour. The last stage of the World Tour race started from Sint Pieters Leeuw and ended after 193,8 km in Geraardsbergen.

With a small version of the Ronde van Vlaanderen (whose course was partially covered during the stage), Filippo Pozzato showed his qualities for the Classics of the North, riding in the main group which chased three riders (Quinziato, Leukemans and Lampaert) who led the race in a breakaway and who stayed away. In fact, they maintained 1' of advantage on the peloton in the approach to the decisive hill, the Denderoordberg (-6 km), where Quinziato made the winning attack. The Italian rider beat the two former breakaway companions, the peloton was 40" too late with Pozzato in 7th.

For LAMPRE-MERIDA, not only Pozzato was protagonist: Roberto Ferrari was one of the 14 members of the main breakaway from which the trio Quinziato, Leukemans and Lampaert counter attaccked during the first passage of the Muur van Geraardsbergen (-50 km) and he was later caught by the peloton with 25 km to go.

The duo of young Slovenians Luka Pibernik and Jan Polanc completed the stage in the same group as Pozzato.
