Filippo Pozzato took an important step towards selection for the World Championshios when he finished second in today's Coppa Bernocchi. The Italian openly admitted that winner Elia Viviani was unbeatable.

Having recently finished second on a stage of the Vuelta a Espana, Filippo Pozzato again advocated for his selection for the Italian Worlds team when he finished second in today's Coppa Bernocchi. The Italian both showed great climbing and sprinting skills as he first made it into the 23-rider front group and finally tried to beat Elia Viviani in the sprint.

"I believed in the opportinity of getting the victory, I did my best in the sprint," he explained. "I approached the sprint in the best possible position, I was aware I could win; unfortunately, Viviani did an amazing sprint, his speed was unbeatable.

"When Sagan did the lead-out, I was convinced that I could beat Viviani but he did a great sprint and used his track skills. 

"I won't be ar the Coppa Agostoni tomorrow, so I won't have the opportunity to repeat the victory I obtained in 2013, but I'll be at the start of Tre Valli Varesine.

"The Worlds? [Italian national coach Davide] Cassani has been verry clear. I feel good and I always given my maximum. Then it's up to him to make the final choice. You should ask him."
