The GP Plouay smiled at Team Lampre Merida and especially at Filippo Pozzato who collected an important success today, showing his best form of the season.
"Today we rode like a really great team, always at the front, careful not to leave any gaps unattended,” Pozzato explained. “We did not manage to completely avoid tricky situations, though, and I also had to put my foot on the ground several times, including in the final laps. Thanks to the contribution of my team mates we always returned to the peloton, however. We had discussed the finale with our Sports Director, Vicino, and we knew that a bunch sprint would have been very difficult to win if we had initiated the sprint from the front of the peloton. Therefore I preferred to remain in the wake of my opponents along the straight downhill final and then unleash my sprint to the finish line. After the great sacrifices that I had to endure in recent months I think with this victory I can repay in part the trust of my team, and look ahead to the end of the season without having to set limits."
